Located within the Alchemy Yoga Centre in Bali, the Lumi Shala by IBUKU stands as a prime example of innovative architectural design. Completed in 2023, this 227-square-metre wellness space exemplifies a perfect blend of natural materials and artisanal craftsmanship, offering an environment that promotes balance and well-being.
The Lumi Shala, encircled by supportive earthen walls, provides a comforting sense of enclosure, making it ideal for yoga practice. Bamboo arches, rising gracefully from mounded foundations, distinguish the structure, embodying a balance between grounding and extension akin to the human form. The five grid-shell roof petals are ingeniously arranged to allow gradients of natural light to permeate the space, creating an atmosphere conducive to introspection and focus.
Following the architectural breakthroughs seen in the Arc at Green School, The Lumi Shala employs similar innovative techniques, but with a fresh dynamic. Prescriptively curved, meticulously detailed bundled bamboo arches, tied together with structural anticlastic grid shells, achieve the clear spans of 21 meters. These features not only enhance the structural integrity but also contribute to the airy lightness of the interior.
